Starting out as a pirate radio station in 1992, Radio Helsinki. Freies Radio Graz became the first free radio station in Austria to broadcast legally in 1995.
In the meantime, Radio Helsinki is one of 14 free radio stations in Austria that are organised in the Association of Free Radio Austria, committed to the Free Radio Charter. Free radio stations offer commercial-free programming from local communities as a valuable alternative to mainstream broadcasting. Every member of our society thus gets the opportunity to broadcast SELF. This is what makes free radio and community TV stations so unique. (2023)
