PrintRoom presents, develops and supports artistic strategies of independent publishing. Founded in 2003 as a travelling and growing collection of artist publications, PrintRoom is based in Rotterdam where it hosts exhibitions, conversations, book launches, performances and workshops for a diverse audience.

PrintRoom has a unique physical collection of experimental publications made by local, national and international artists. Many of these publications, from zines to artist books, are hardly or not at all available in the Netherlands. They can be purchased in the shop at Schietbaanstraat 17, which functions as an event space, archive, reading room and office in one. In addition, PrintRoom runs a workshop space which offers various facilities, including riso stencil machines for do it yourself printing – from collectively designed publications and small flipbooks to posters, banners and zines.

Through creating and publishing artist publications, building and sharing a unique archive, organizing a Publisher in Residence programme and curating various events, PrintRoom connects international networks and local communities on a daily basis. For PrintRoom, artist publishing equals do it yourself together: every publishing project is at the same time a socially engaged, collective process.
