Philippe Aigrain (15 July 1949 - 11 July 2021) was a computer scientist, researcher, former head of the technical software sector at the European Commission, and co-founder of La Quadrature du Net. His ideas have become emblematic in the activism in favor of the commons and against the abuses of intellectual property and the appropriation of information by a minority of economic actors. His analyzes are developed in particular in his book Cause commune: l'information entre bien commun et propriété (Fayard, 2005, under a Creative Commons license), which has become a reference in thinking on the subject.
