Jan Čumlivski

Jan Čumlivski studied Hungarian philology and cultural studies at the Charles University in Prague, animation and type design and typography at the UMPRUM in Prague. He writes, draws, engraves, designs typefaces, prints... All of which he makes use of in his author’s books (Kvartira 77 [2004], Ni čest, ni slávu / Weder Ruhm, noch Ehre [2005], Palmáre [2007], Union — Ideálny štát [2008], Kolchoz 2047 [2010], Jesus Gym [2010], Střed / The Core [2011], Žár / The Glare [2014], Póvl [2017]). He makes his living in graphic design and teaching (Typolab at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava and the studio of type design and typography at UMPRUM in Prague). He is a co-creator of the Tabook festival and editor of its Baedekr. In 2017, his retrospective was part of the joint exhibition Hardboiled School at the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava.
