Esoteric.codes is a blog and interview series covering self-expression in the text of code. It began in 2011 covering esolangs or "esoteric programming languages:" deliberately non-practical languages designed as experiments or conceptual art by hackers, digital artists and poets. Renamed to esoteric.codes in 2014, it expanded to include other work where reading the text of code is essential to understanding the piece, especially pieces that undermine practical tools. Esoteric.codes has been shown at ZKM and written at the New Museum's NEW INC incubator and won the 2014 ArtsWriters.org award form Creative Capital / Andy Warhol Foundation. As of 2021, it is on indefinite hold. (2023)
