Sound art festival held in Budapest.


+3dB 2009

The first edition of the +3dB Contemporary Sound Art festival was held between May 6-8, 2009 in Budapest.

  • 06.05.2009. Performance

Location: Fríz-hall Epreskert, Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Budapest

- BA-Unrated (HU/SK) Artist group from Budapest operating since 2007. Organizers of the +3dB festival.


  • 07.05.2009. Lectures

Location: Feszty-house, Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Budapest.

- Shinji Kanki (JAP) Experimental music composer, producer, educator and representative of SILAKKA Productions. He has composed music for dolphins according to conventions found in dolphin music or found to please dolphins in his Music for Dolphins (Ultrasonic Improvisational Composition) for underwater ultrasonic loudspeakers (2001).

- Jozef Cseres (SK) He teaches aesthetics at the Bratislava University. He writes on issues of contemporary music and organizes the "Sounding Off" festival.

+3dB 2010

The second edition of the +3dB Contemporary Sound Art festival was held between May 11-14, 2010. The festival was organized by the artist group BA-Unrated and Lívia Nolasco-Rózsás.


  • 11.05.2010. Exhibition

Location: 2B Gallery, Budapest. Opening speech of the exhibition, and the festival by Zsolt Sőrés.

- Neon & Landa (NL) Leon Spek and Nanda Milbreta is a sound artist duo, working together since 2007. Their experimental use of materials and electronics leads to the creation of sound installations, sculptures, instruments and unconventional music.

- hans w. koch (DE) Audio-visual artist, composer, and performer from Cologne Germany.

- Gergő Nagy (HU) His main working areas are sound installation, performance and music composition. He graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2009. Co-founder of the group BA-Unrated. His sound object called Sinus shows the physical changes of a bipolar sinus curve.

- George Bagdasarov (AM/CZ) Works in various fields of art, as a composer, performer and documentary film director.

- Ahad Zsolt Sőrés (HU) Born 1969 in Budapest Zsolt Sőrés aka Ahad Improvised/electroacoustic and noise musician, sound artist, editor, performance and conceptual artist. In his improvisation he uses analogue and digital instruments; tabletop viola, selected percussion, home-made rugophone, contact microphones, objects, DAT-recorder, mixer feedback.

- László Vidovszky (HU) Hungarian composer and musician professor of University of Pécs, Faculty of Music and Visual Arts and recipient of the Kossuth Prize in 2010. On the lecture Vidovszky presented one of his audio-visual works entitled Na-Ne Audio Video Games (1990) which was created on a nowadays abandoned Atari ST computer[1].
