Brassaï (pseudonym of Gyula Halász) (9 September 1899 — 8 July 1984) was a Hungarian photographer, sculptor, and filmmaker. Like many artists he flourished in Paris beginning between the World Wars. He was named by his friend, the writer Henry Miller, "the eyes of Paris. His name Brassaï, comes from Hungarian name of his native town (Brassó, brassói, brassai).
