Filmmaker. Born 1911 in Lodz. Studies at the University of Warsaw. 1929 co-founds Start society. Directed 24 films between 1931 and 1970. Co-directs the 1933 film The Sea, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 1933 for Best Short Subject (Novelty). 1935 member of SAF. Feature films since 1936. 1937 with Ford 'People of the Vistula', depicting the life of workers on the Vistula river, adapted from the novel 'Vistula' by Jerzy Kornacki and Helena Boguszewska of City Outskirts group. During 1944 Warsaw Uprising leeds the production of newsreels for Film Department BIP KG AK (Referat Filmowy BIP KG AK). 1955-61 artistic director of "Syrena" film society. Dies 1971 in Warsaw.
