Ivar Smedstad (1961, Oslo) has been working with video art and electronic media since the early 1980s and has participated in numerous international and national video art exhibitions, screenings and festivals.
He received his BFA in Performance/Video from San Francisco Art Institute (1988). He then moved on to work with distribution and preservation of video art at Electronic Arts Intermix in New York, where he held the position as Technical Director (1988-1992). In 1992 he received a fellowship from the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne where he worked as an artist in residence and lecturer in media art (1992-2000). From 2000, Smedstad was associate professor in the Intermedia department and institute chair at Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts.
