Born 1934 in Wattenscheid/Westfalen, studied German literature, history and political sciences in Göttingen and Stuttgart; doctoral thesis in 1965, 1967 Prix Strasbourg; 1979 habilitation (contemporary German literature with a special focus on media); 1987 Fellowship of the Japan Society for Promotion of Science; 1990 stipend of the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris; 1992 guest of honor at the Accademia Tedesca, Rome; guest professorships at Karl-Franzens-University(Graz/Austria), Kansai-University (Osaka/Japan) und Hebrew University (Jerusalem/Israel); lives as literature- und media scholar, author and artist in Stuttgart-Botnang.
