Matěj Sýkora did not complete his art history studies, but he did graduate with a degree in scenography. He has been involved in theatre-film and its various performative forms since around 2000. Sometimes he is a film architect, sometimes a drummer. He loves everything that is strange, that is on the street and that is perverse — even perversely ordinary. His work spans theatre in the gutters to productions at the National Theatre. Occasionally he enters galleries as an installation unit or as the creator of his own spatial ideas. Programmatically, he tries to draw on the everyday microcosms that surround us. He recycles the values of matter when the new form allows him to do so. He doesn’t like black. He rides a bicycle. He’s a mushroom picker and a photographer. (2021)
