Born 1891. After 1905 illegal bolshevik, arrested and beaten. 1908 emigrates to Paris, shortly involved with bolshevik emigrees, then bohemian writing poems. WWI correspondent of St Petersburg paper. 1917 back in Russia after revolution. 1920 kiev, then fleeds to Crimea, then Moscow, arrested there. 1930s frequent travels to West where he campaigns for peace and socialism (friend of many european leftists). 1939 war journalist in Spanish civil war. Died 1967.
