Born 1897. Died 1976. The leading supporter and practitioner of functional design in Czechoslovakia. He advocated the constructivist ideal and the application of design principles to every aspect of contemporary life.

In addi�tion to graphics, this prolific Prague designer created toys, furniture, silverware, dishes, and fabrics.

The publishing house Druzstevni Prace retained Sutnar as design director. His book jackets and editorial designs evinced an organizational simplic�ity and typographic clarity, giving graphic impact to the com�munication.
