Digital signal processing and sound performances

Sound artists got interested in DSP from a variety of backgrounds: serious music composing (Burlas, Matej, Piaček, Žoffaj), industrial music fan (Bittner, Tóth), punk & DIY (Potočný, Lichý, Kordík, Šubrtová), garsonka folk (Kladivo, Burgr), and theatre performances (Murin, Burgr, Vlk).

Techniques include

  • electronics (Rbnx [self-made], Urbanfailure, Jamka)
  • software-based DSP using Reaktor (Poo), Abbleton (Oliver Irsai, Vlk), Max/MSP (Martin Vysoký, Zoffaj, Kordik, Kladivo, Pink Big Pig), and in combination with accoustic instruments (Martin Vysoký, Pink Big Pig)
  • live electronics (Matej)

Rbnx (Tobiáš Potočný). Self-made electronics, electric signal manipulations. Often with Urbanfailure. Part of Urbsounds.
Urbanfailure (Michal Lichý). Electronics (sampler etc). Often with Rbnx. Part of Urbsounds.
Jamka (Monika Šubrtová and Daniel Kordík). Electronics (samplers, drummachine), software DSP (Max). Deconstructing beats into inbetweens ('jamkas'). Part of Urbsounds.

Poo ([[::.:]] and Róbert Bittner). Software DSP (Reaktor).
[[::.:]] (Daniel Tóth). Software DSP (Reaktor).
Jozef Vlk. Software DSP (Abbleton).
Oliver Irsai (Peter Jančár). Software DSP (Abbleton).
Martin Vysoký (Slávo Krekovič). Software DSP (Lloop patch for Max) and accoustic instruments.
Marek Žoffaj. Software DSP (Max). Body-controlled pieces for theatre in Netherlands.
JB Kladivo. Software DSP (Max).
Helmafrodit (Michal Murin and Michal Snopko). Software DSP, theatrical elements.

Over4tea (Daniel Matej, Martin Burlas, JB Kladivo). Laptops (Kladivo and Burlas), synths (Burlas), live electronics (Matej, not software processed), violoncello (Kladivo).
Pink Big Pig (Lubo Burgr and Marek Piaček). Software DSP (Max) and accoustic instruments.

Visual performances

Zden (Zdeno Hlinka). Developed own Circulation visual engine. Uses recorded material and site-specific image processing.
Ján Šicko. Visuals for theatre pieces (Adobe Director).
Ana Filip. Uses samples and site-specific image processing (Pure Data). With gnd.
gnd (Peter Gonda). Uses samples and site-specific image processing (Pure Data). With Ana Filip.
Kufrik Brothers (Peter Agat Huba and Berco).
Mentaldesign.
Mik (Michaela Danková). Uses recorded material (Imagine).
Saša Gojdičová. Uses recorded material (Imagine).

Interactive software-based installations

Ivor Diosi. Augmented reality installations.
Peter Agat Huba. Mechanical simulation of virtual reality.
Daniel Tóth and Peter Gonda. Interactive film and music footage manipulation.

Computer animation

Peter Agat Huba. Flash narrative animations.
